FATHER OF INDIAN PLANT ANATOMY

Prof. P. JAYARAMAN was born on 15.12.1936 in a village called Vettavalam in Thiruvannamalai District in Tamil Nadu. He had his M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Botany from Presidency College, Chennai. He was the last Ph.D. student of Dr. B.G.L. Swamy who is one of the eminent Professors of Plant Morphology and also a former Principal of Presidency College, Chennai. His area of specialization was Plant Anatomy. He studied and served in the Presidency College, Chennai.

He is one of the renowned teachers in the field of Plant Anatomy in India. He has guided more than 10 Ph.D. students directly and offered research expertise to more than 100 Ph.D. scholars indirectly. He retired from Service in 1995, but he has not retired from Science/scientific studies. Just after his retirement, he has established a Research Laboratory in Chennai viz., PLANT ANATOMY RESEARCH CENTRE (PARC), which is located at No. 4, 2nd Street, Sakthi Nagar, West Tambaram, Chennai – 600045. Phone No. 044-22263236, E-mail ID: .

Research Scholars, Students, Teachers, Scientists and others from different disciplines of Plant Sciences across the country visit his laboratory for identification, authentication, consultation and guidance, anatomical description of plant organs and also to seek his expert opinion before proceeding to any research in plant anatomy/medicinal plants. People also visit PARC for referring rare and valuable books, Ph.D. theses, Dissertations, Journals etc. In fact, PARC is a REFERENCE CENTRE for the Herbal Scientists and Plant Anatomists. He has a Repository of more than 500 Voucher slides in PARC.

He has attained 75 years in December 2010. He devoted two third of his life span (about 45 years) to study different plant groups anatomically and gained a wealth of knowledge in Plant Anatomy as well as in Medicinal Plants. I can proudly say that in India, no one has studied the plants anatomically, the way he has studied. He is a -LIVING ENCYCLOPEDIA OF PLANT ANATOMY’. There is a famous biblical scripture that -Man looks at the outward appearance, but God looks at the Heart. Yes, he looks at the -HEART, MIND and SOUL of PLANTS’, that is, the VASCULATURES (Vascular structures), which enables us to differentiate one species from the other anatomically.

He deserves to be designated as the -FATHER OF INDIAN PLANT ANATOMY’. In recognition of his untiring service and outstanding contribution to the field of Plant Anatomy, he may be decorated as the -FATHER OF INDIAN PLANT ANATOMY’. Let us all pray to Almighty to give him pink health, wealth and longevity to serve the scientific fraternity.

Tutoring Benefits Students Outside Of The Classroom

The classroom setting is often not enough for students to learn all of the subject material they need to know in order to pass tests and advance to harder classes. Tutoring is when students receive professional academic guidance or instruction, and it is a way for students to improve knowledge or skills far more rapidly than in a classroom setting. Tutoring is often beneficial to homeschooled students, as well. Students have several options to supplement their education outside the classroom, including in-home tutoring, academic coaching, and online tutoring. Solution assistance is another option in the field of math tutoring. This method of checking the accuracy of answers is particularly beneficial to students who live in remote areas, as is online tutoring.

Many students improve their test scores and grades by using online tutoring. Online tutoring companies use state of the art technology to provide parents and students with the ability to work with trained academic instructors from the convenience of home. Tutors can help students work through problems, or they can let students work on their own and then review their answers and provide assistance when students have questions. Online tutors, like other academics assistance providers, often focus on a specific educational subject or skill, such as math or science.

Online tutors are often privately hired and paid by the student or the student’s family. There are also government programs, such as Supplemental Educational Services, which provide free academic tutoring to qualifying students. As part of the No Child Left Behind Act, low income families can enroll their children in Supplemental Educational Services if their school has been designated by the state to be in need of improvement for at least three years. Organizations that provide Supplemental Educational Services to students are identified and approved by each states Department of Education.

Most often, tutoring relates to an academic subject or test preparation when students need assistance in a specific course or subject that they are taking. Tutoring may be used for remedial students or others requiring special attention. In many cases, tutoring is also used to provide more advanced material to especially capable and highly motivated students. Whatever the students needs may be, tutoring and parental involvement can supplement classroom learning and help any student achieve academic success and reach their potential in life.

Moulding steel the fun way!

Applying the basic tenets of origami, Ar. Julio Barreno Gutierrez infuses colour and fun in a functionally requisite shelter in Spain…

Designing for children brings on an excitement; the architect flips through childlike imagery, seeing the world through the eyes of the youngsters. Ar. Julio too found his inspiration in the art of origami, when he was asked to design and build a canopy for a school playground, sheltering the children from the elements during their everyday periodic breaks.

Located in Algodonales, a small scenic village in Sierra de Cadiz in the south of Spain, its landscape abounding with pristine whitewashed houses and their Arab-tiled sloping roofs, set amid olive groves and fruit and vegetable fields; Principe de Asturias is a school with a modern but uninteresting building and two playgrounds. Attempting to rejuvenate the school environment, Ar. Julio resorted to breathe life into the nondescript school playground using brightly coloured sheet steel – infusing the environs with colour and fun.

Connecting the two playgrounds, which were at different levels – one to the north and the other to the west – he has designed a structurally strong one-centimetre thick sheet steel canopy that visually mimics folds of paper. By painting the canopy in vivid pink and blue colours; different colours on both sides, the architect tries to draw one’s attention away from the gravitational property of typical steel construction and approach the project with a focus on the properties of paper instead; i.e. low weight and thickness.

So we have the canopy unfolding like a large linearly spread-out tent, anchored to the ground via the pointed edges of its triangular folds that taper at random intervals to give the canopy its form. Its form is its strength; as it creates an element of intrigue for the children, presenting them with vividness and a playful form day-after-day.

The architect succeeds in underlining the basic principles of origami in architecture and creating a child-friendly fun element that can withstand the test of time, while it will continue to regale generation after generation.

Xbox 360 E74 Cause – Tips on How to Avoid

A countless number of Xbox 360 owners have experienced the dreaded Xbox 360 E74 system error.
The Xbox 360 E74 error is characterized by a screen that displays “E74”, and the console will flash one red light around the power button. The E74 is a lot like the RROD for the Xbox 360. Both the RROD and the E74 are caused by overheating of the console.

Several factors contribute to the overheating problem. These factors include: playing your Xbox 360 for hours upon hours with no down time, placing your console in a tight place or somewhere that doesn’t get proper ventilation, placing your console on long shaggy carpet that prevents the console from ventilating appropriately, or failing to dust the vents periodically. Just one of these factors or a combination of them can cause overheating of your Xbox 360.

Now that you know what can cause overheating, I am ready to reveal to you the difference between the E74 and the RROD. The singular difference between these two problems is the component of the motherboard that is defective. For the RROD, the CPU and/or GPU chip becomes detached from the motherboard. As for the Xbox 360 E74, the display chip is the defective component. Both problems are caused by overheating, it is just a different component on the motherboard that becomes defective.

There are a countless number of E74 fixes available on the Internet. Anything from wrapping your console in a few towels, to completely re-balling the computer chips. With so many fixes out there, it is very important that you do your homework before you decide on the fix that is right for you.

If your console doesn’t have the E74 or any other system errors, you probably want to keep it that way. Abide by these 4 guidelines, and maximize the life of your Xbox 360!

1. Place Xbox 360 on hard/smooth surface. Surfaces such as carpets are not good to place your console on while playing, as it prevents proper ventilation.

2. Do not place Xbox 360 close to other electronic devices such as a Blu-Ray player. The heat from the Blu-Ray or other device will just compound the overheating problem.

3. Regularly dust the vents on your Xbox 360. Built up dust around vents can lead to improper ventilation.

4. Try to limit yourself from playing your console for hours upon hours. Giving your console breaks will greatly help it’s performance.

Surprisingly, the Xbox 360 E74 error can be easily fixed in a matter of an hour or less. Also, you can avoid sending your console off for 5-6 weeks, and paying Microsoft $200 to fix your console. Read my own personal review of the Xbox 360 E74 fix that has helped me successfully repair several Xbox 360 consoles.

Encourage the child’s interest to be a writer

by Reed Markham, Daytona State College

Toni Bickart, author of WHAT EVERY PARENTS NEEDS TO KNOW ABOUT  FIRST, SECOND,  AND THIRD GRADES observed:  “The process of learning how to write begins at a very early age.  Young children, using crayons or markers, write with great enthusiasm and eagerness.  Toddlers and preschoolers think that all they have to do is pick up a pen and scrawl little lines and dots.

Gradually, they realize that writing is speech in the form of symbols on paper, so they talk and scribble away and expect you to read this scribble.  As their fine motor skills develop, children draw pictures and dictate words to accompany the pictures.  Sometimes they try to write words.  They may start with words they remember seeing somewhere, or they may attempt to write the sounds they hear when they say the words aloud.  For example, a child might write “d” or DG” for “DOG.”  From these modest but enthusiastic beginnings, writers emerge.”

The following advice will help your child develop strong writing skills:

First, encourage writing at home.  Bernard Ryan, author of HELPING YOURCHILD START  SCHOOL  concluded:  “Children get a big kick out of writing their own stories and poems, even jokes and riddles.  Encourage your child to write by making sure he has paper, pencils, and pens. If you have a computer in the house,  introduce him to your word-processing program.  Writing also calls for listening to books read aloud, so your child hears ideas expressed in sentences that move along into narratives. Keep reading aloud.  You provide several messages when you read to your child.  You show respect for the written word.  You provide a warm, intimate experience that is particularly enjoyable, especially in the winding-down time before bed.  Keep the praise flowing.  Read your child’s stories, project papers, and book reports, but read conscientiously and praise honestly.  Point out what is well done before you belabor the weaknesses, for encouragement is vital food for the writer.”

Second, create a list of  at-home writing activities.  Bickart urges parents to include the following items on their list:

*message board- put up a message board family members can write messages to each other

*diary- give your child a diary or a calendar with space to write or word or two about what happened each day

*discuss writing- when interesting or funny things happen, talk with your child about how you could write stories about these events- begin by saying the first line, have your child say the next, and  keep alternating until you have finished the story

*photo captions- invite your child to write captions for pictures in a family photo album

Third, encourage your child’s teacher to develop an online newspaper.  A classroom newspaper can provide kids with wonderful writing opportunities. Your child’s teacher should consider membership in the National Elementary Schools PressAssociation (NESPA).  This organization is dedicated to helping elementary and middle schools start a newspaper.  Check out the excellent resources on the NESPA web site: http://nespa.ua.edu.

Is The Madison Cavanaugh Cure a Scam?

Madison Cavanaugh has brought to the world some of the most powerful knowledge of the 21st century.

She is the pioneer of the One Minute Cure for all diseases. The product she has developed over the years has the potential to cure practically every single known diseases and sickness out there, from cancer to AIDS and etc. After watching her mother die of colon cancer, and her grandmother passing away due to a cancerous tumor of the brain, she vowed to find a cure for this terrible disease. She begin a relentless medical research and the result is, she is now radically changing the world, one step at a time.

Ironically, she ended up stumbling on it by accident during oxygenating research. She was astonished when this amazing substance showed hope for preventing and curing AIDS in Africa, and destroyed cancer calls in America. Often, complete tumors would simply disintegrate and disappear after the patient consumed this amazing substance.

The thing is, this natural liquid is not a medical treatment – in fact, almost nobody else knows that it is an effective cure for any sickness and diseases out there! One possible downside for Madison was that since this is not a heavily marketable prescription drug, she really couldn’t develop it and sell it to patients for a profit.

In fact, this cure is so inexpensive, it costs most people around one penny per day. The only possible way to keep the funding alive to spread the word about this cure, is to simply sell the information, and inform more people.

Wholesale Distributors Meeting 21st Century Challenges

Expanding Services Margin Upside

Product margins vary for Wholesale Distributors, based on products, territories, and their own efficiencies. But clearly, service margins are usually much higher. Along with outsourcing, manufacturers are also closing branch offices and service depots. Businesses don’t want the head count or the challenges associated with the resource management of diverse and remote facilities, logistics, and people.
That represents the upside for the wholesale distributor! Local market knowledge, the strength and weakness of the product catalog, and insight can be provided into the types of services that customers need. Today, many brand companies clearly know that their channel partners are the ‘sales and service arms’ of their companies. And many have put large investments in place, from sales training to product installation, repair training and certification.

For call centre management, this capability can also be leveraged to support clients’ businesses. Again, instead of making the WD just a cost centre to manage customer interactions, it can become another service and a source of revenue.
Manufacturing services are playing a great part in the distributor’s business model. From light ‘kitting’ and assembly to custom value-added-reseller (VAR) services, the proximity to customer markets, again, allows the WD to open discussion on these higher margin activities. Once the WD is in the ‘manufacturing game,’ customer-specific services such as configuration management, pre-loaded software and installation can all be done.

Diversity and Multi-channel

A big challenge for the WD is managing diverse methods for customer sales and self-service options, often called multi-channel. This is the ability to provide a ‘single face to the customer’ regardless of their preferred shopping methoddirect sales, web, catalog, phone or showroom. Often, established customers use multiple channels. This is a huge issue if the processes, system and business tools can’t identify this customer and assure that all the appropriate services and agreements are instantly known. Does the sales person in the showroom know that this customer is entitled to a 30% discount? Does the system know that this customer, when ordering on-line, has higher priority when allocating scarce product? Can the 3rdparty warehouse have access to all the proper labeling and shipping information?
Foundationally, today’s WDs should be old pros at this type of challenge. Right?
Added to this are the complexity and diversity of the services, priorities, pricing, and ‘deals’ unique to each customer. In addition to providing transparency in sales and fulfillment, the WD’s business accounting software and billing system has to be precise, productive and transparent to the customer. Too often WDs are filled with paper tracking down pricing complaints, dealing with charge-back and settlements with customers, with no audit trail of transactions and service add-ons. Making the sale, only to lose margins in poor paperwork and ‘give backs’ to customers, who clearly did not really earn those discounts, is an all too familiar story. Diversity can cost. But it doesn’t have to be that way.

Is Uniform Necessary For Education

Several schools in the US and beyond are beginning to institute uniform in hopes of controlling student behavior and dress. Some may argue, that uniforms are unneeded and do more hurt to students then good. However, those for it have a good point too. It is come to the point of where it is a matter of opinion whether to have uniform or not, with both sides having valuable arguments.

Uniform, many point out, is taking away the freedom of expression the Constitution gives to us. But is it really affecting your expression? Supporters think not, in fact they believe that it takes attention off what you are wearing, and puts it into deeper things, such as personality and attitude. In this logic it forces you to look beyond appearance, and cuts down bullying because of clothing. And interview with student Jacelyn Blair pointed out that, “I really don’t think they cut down on bullying at all. Kids will always find some reason to pick on someone.”

In an interview I conducted with two people, each on different sides of the argument, I gained some valuable insight. Ashelin Walker said, “Price on uniform is high, considering their general low quality. It doesn’t really help poor families like people say.” Mrs. Kenner, a teacher at my local school, pointed out that “The latest trends can get expensive, and students, especially teens, will “have to buy” something. In this way, it prevents students from buying, let’s say, $100 dollar jeans.” Uniforms supporters say that it encourages discipline and increases school pride. On the other hand those against say that uniform is are an unfair, additional expense parents have to pay.

In the end it has come to a matter of opinion, with both sides having valuable arguments. While many think uniform solves many problems, there are those who believe it will open a rift to a whole new world of problems. The question of uniforms being good or bad is controversial, and like many other such issues will be one for a good while yet.
