Teaching Kids the Basics of Charity

Teaching children the concept of charity and giving can start early. By simple talks you can instill in a child the responsibility to look after those less fortunate. Parents can over think this but by talking simply to a child you can introduce the concepts to them.

Talk to Them at Their Level
You can talk to your child in age appropriate levels to help start the idea of helping people out. Simple lessons about a character with a specific problem like being hungry or tired can be told. Ask your child what they would do to help the character. The most common answer is the buy them something. At this point tell them the character just cant afford it. Follow this up quickly with an upbeat way of saying they can help out by raising funds for the character.

The basic concept of this is to guide the child along and help them understand that they can be a part of helping someone else.

Guiding a Group of Kids Through a Charitable Project
Kids can learn charity, responsibility and teamwork by putting together their own fundraising project. Picking an age appropriate activity is essential. Let your kids pick something they want to do for community service or a fundraising activity. They can pick something from visiting children in a hospital or baking for seniors to choosing an appropriate fundraising activity. This activity can be anything from selling old clothes out of their closet to getting together with classmates and friends to raise money for a campaign theyve picked.

With any kind of selling situation its always suggested that a child be followed by an adult. Coach your child and practice what to say to represent their charities. If they are determined they can add a lot of enthusiasm to their campaign just based on their age.

Not only does supervising a child or teen while they put on a fundraising campaign help them understand charity and the effort required but helps them learn to talk in front of others. Other skill sets they learn are how to follow instructions carefully, record keeping and time management.

Reward Their Efforts
If possible reward kids for the efforts. Take the kids to show them what their fundraising has changed. Show them the park they helped clean up, show photographs of people they have helped support. Whatever way is possible to uplift kids for a job well done.

Devoted to Targeting Limited Resources to Directly Benefit Students

A budget is a document of competing priorities that demands tough choices. As a former teacher, I believe the classroom comes first. The Kern High School District derives the majority of its revenues from the State of California. The state economy has suffered through the worst recession in state history and the KHSD has seen its revenues from the state reduced by more than $30 million over the past two years. Allocation of funds for programs that facilitate student learning and support extracurricular activities is the priority. As a Trustee, I will look for ways to eliminate waste and direct every dollar possible to the classroom.

Clearly, the best investment in improved student achievement is more and more highly qualified teachers providing students more classes that provide for more opportunities for a successful high school experience. A large number of teachers reports their graduate and professional school training is inadequate in preparing them for their teaching duties. That makes on-going professional development a must! Fortunately, the high school district has a strong commitment to staff development. Currently the district is in the process of training its staff to work as Professional Learning Communities (PLC). Teachers participating in this model work collaboratively to design lessons and to analyze student work for mastery of concepts and skills taught. When mastery is not achieved, redesigns of lessons occur and students are re-taught. This collegial approach shows great promise for raising student scores. Teachers are learning from each other and developing strategies that enhance student learning. Researched based staff development like PLC, when done well, provides a great return on investment.

Learning power can be maximized with technology. Faster, more accurate and more detailed information about which students are struggling in which areas and why facilitates more effective remediation. The Kern High School District has been very aggressive, a state leader in fact, in advancing the use of technology to increase student achievement. Unfortunately, budget cuts have slowed District progress in this area in recent years. As a Trustee, my budget priorities would be more and better teachers first followed by maximum optimizing of technology in the classroom including more on-line offerings for students who are struggling to graduate and for students seeking to get a head start on college.

Gone are the days when you could spend hours busy in chit-chat session with your family along with cup of tea and snacks. Now people are running against the time with the sole motive of earning extra bucks that has enabled them to gain all the luxury and comfort. In Wordsworths language in the poem World Is Too Much with Us, we are gaining in materialistic benefits by forsaking our insight to watch all the beauty and boons that Mother Nature offers us. Truly speaking in todays time people are lacking in emotions and sentiments. They hardly share a bond with anyone, not even with their family members. In this scenario the worst sufferers are the children as their parents can hardly devote any time for them. In other word, the scope of entertainment for children is also getting minimized. However with DISH Network the entertainment for kids has reached a new height. It has a wide array of channels that is stuffed with the programs that the kids would just love to watch.

Earlier kids were the most neglected group and the television providers hardly took any initiative to satisfy their needs. But DISH Network has brought about a sea change in the concept of entertainment of these small kids. Bringing in a revolution in the home entertainment DISH Network has started quite a number of lucrative packages with a handful of kids channels being incorporated in them. No longer, they are the dejected section rather they are the best valued customers of DISH. Be it cartoon, animated shows, or wild life safaris, you will get enough ingredients for your children. In fact the premier channels like Disney Network and others air all the fun filled entertaining movies for these tender souls. Kids also have found the educational programs at DISH TV quite interesting as well as educative.

Let us throw some light on some for the special channels that have gained immense popularity amongst the child folks. Cartoon Network has a complete package of entertainment that includes animated serials, special kids shows and what not. Nicktoon Networks, a premier channel for kids, offers a huge array of programs including latest kids shows as well as few of the old classics of kids entertainment. Another one Kids and Teens Television also is worth mentioning. This DISH channel is an exclusive channel that offer top class programs for toddlers and youths. You can watch animated shows, talk shows, musical videos, dramas and various child fitness programs. There is commercial free educational channel for all the preschool toddlers. This channel is Nick Jr. that is devoted to help out two or five years old to learn and make them fit to meet all the problems of the world.

Although there can be no substitute for parents love, the DISH TV channels, to some extent, help your kids to get all the joy and amusement and help them to cope better with the situation in absence of their parents.

Play Areas For Kids

The best children’s gardens are those that have the play areas integrated into the larger garden, as well as providing hiding places for kids (that you can still see, of course). Try making a teepee out of long poles and twine that can then be covered by climbing plants. Or you could create a “room” by planting a circle of plants of flowers with an opening in the middle. Some child sized furniture in the middle will really top it off.

Kids love to use the garden so don’t make it difficult for them to do so. Place a container outside that can hold all of their toys such as skipping ropes, balls, and sports equipment. A well-maintained lawn is a must and an area of the garden that the kids will always use. this could be for simple “chasey” type games or for games of soccer, football, cricket, etc.
Trampolines, swing sets, sand pits, slides, and climbing equipment are classic backyard additions that every child will love. Ensure their safety by placing the equipment carefully and installing soft surfaces below. Also make sure that the play equipment is located in an area that has shade. No child wants to play on plastic or metal equipment when it has been baked hot by the sun.
You ensure that you install the equipment which is appropriate to the age of your children. Check all spaces open in the equipment.

The playset should have well defined playing fields which are assured safety. For example, you wouldn ‘t want a child slipping in bottom of the right-hand side in front of another child going up to the top another part of the playset.

Once upon a time, the school holidays were heralded by the smell of freshly mown grass, the sound of the ice-cream man and a feeling of time unbound, carefree days that stretched on forever. Today, we know the school holidays are here because there’s an influx of aggressively hyped animated movies at the cinema and their accompanying games fighting for attention on the shelf.

Guitar Lessons For Kids

Everybody approaches arranging guitar lessons for kids with some trepidation. If you don’t have a lot of experience with teaching kids guitar or giving guitar lessons in general, you need a few basic facts to calm you down.

The first job in giving guitar lessons to anybody is grabbing and holding their attention. When you are giving the guitar lessons to kids this is not something you do once and coast along for the rest of the lesson, you need to be constantly renewing the kid’s interest.

All kids have a favorite song so guitar lessons should contain some songs that they are familiar with and like. That way when you get to a snag like learning a chord that your student finds a little tricky, singing the section of the song to relate it to the chord will be a help. If you want to teach kids musical theory, a familiar song will also be a help in getting them to relate to the written music and musical ideas in a practical way.

One thing kids like is being treated like a grown-up, so the theme of your discussions during guitar lessons could be along the lines of telling your pupil about how the end result of the guitar lessons is his being able to teach himself to play his favorite songs.

Don’t give a kid songs that are too difficult for him to learn. If he wants to learn something that is too advanced for them, gently steer his attention over to something simpler. You also should have a few songs of your own as guitar teaching material. Two-chord songs like Iko-Iko, are great to ignite a kid’s interest. Here’s a few old folk songs that might also be of some help: Tom Dooley, Puttin’ On The Style, He’s Got The Whole World In His Hands, Skip To My Lou and My Darling Clementine. When it’s time to move onto three chord songs, a web search will yield a whole range of latin, rock and country songs.

As far as the theoretical side of guitar for kids goes, it is best to give it in small doses. Guitar lessons for kids should never stop being fun. Not necessarily laugh out loud hilarity kind of fun, but at least interesting. So a kid can take plenty of theory as long as it is linked to a song or an idea that interests him. It’s the same principle for getting the kid’s motor skills moving – keep him interested and don’t let him go too fast.

Low Carb Diets for Kids

Low carb diets for kids are a great way to lose fat and enjoy delicious food at the same time. If your kid is over weight or diabetic, low carb is a good option. This is because blood sugar levels remain stable and the body will metabolize fats for energy.

There are a few rules to follow when going on a low carb diet for kids. First of all daily carbohydrate intake should be 30 grams. Make sure to read the nutritional labels to count carbs. The rest of the calories should come from protein and fat.

Here is a list of low carb foods your child can eat:

asparagus, avocado, beef, black berries, blue berries, bell pepper, broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower,
celery, cheese, chicken, cooking oil, cucumber, eggs, flax seeds, fish, heavy cream, lettuce, mushroom, nuts, onion, pepperoni, pork, pumpkin, raspberries, salami, sausage, shellfish, spinach, squash, strawberries, turnip, tomatoes, and turkey.

There are more foods that are allowed on a low carb diet for kids recipes. Just make sure that it does not have too many carbs per serving. Avoid high carb foods like bread, pasta, potatoes, rice, cereal, oats, etc. Sugars and syrups should not be eaten either. If you need a sweetener, consider using stevia. Stevia is a herb based sweetener that is great for low carbing.

Low Carb Ice Cream
Low carb ice cream for kids is nutritious, delicious, and good for the health. Ice cream is one of the many treats that I loved as a kid. The problem is that it can be a very fattening treat. Ice cream is loaded with sugar and carbs and can cause weight gain and cavities. However, there is a way to enjoy it and not worry about either of these problems. Definitely add this to your kids recipes.

It has a very little amount of carb per serving so it will not be as damaging as real ice cream. All you need are the ingredients and a cheap ice cream machine. Here is what you need for this great kids recipe.

Ingredients for 8 servings:
1 cup heavy cream
1 tbsp stevia or splenda
1 tsp vanilla extract

Simply mix the ingredients and put them in the ice cream maker. If you don’t own an ice cream machine, you can use this method:
Get a bucket and put 3 cups of ice in it. Then place 6 tbsp on salt in the bucket. Put the ice cream mixture in a plastic zip lock bag and place the bag in the bucket. After a while, the ice cream should become creamy. It is now ready to eat.

Add some strawberries, cocoa powder, or peanut butter into the mixture for different flavors. Each serving has 250 calories, 22 grams of fat, and 3 grams of carbs. This tasty dessert is one of the great kids recipes that are tasty yet guilt free

The Four Pillars Of Financial Intelligence

You would think it would be easy to get people to admit that they want to be rich and then take action, wouldn’t you? But no, people are very worried about firstly admitting they want to be wealthier, and then very fearful of taking action. So, as a Wealth Coach, I usually prefer to talk about Financial Intelligence rather than Wealth Creation.

In order for people to get excited enough to make the leap and join The Money Gym, we have to talk about becoming a millionaire, and the millionaires we have helped create, because most people can’t often be bothered for anything less.

Unless there are guaranteed results and they are big and compelling enough, people often don’t want to pick up a book turn off the tv, go to workshops and learn anything new, certainly not for anything less than millions. And they want it quick too!

Really, Wealth Creation and Financial Intelligence are very similar animals, but Wealth Creation needs to be underpinned by Financial Intelligence, otherwise the wealth will go the way of the wealth of most lottery or competition winners up the Swanee, spent on fast cars, big houses, champagne and very unsuitable companions!

Actually I just described my old age, if you add in long holidays in the caribbean, purple velour shell suits, with lurid hair to match, lots of bling and unfeasibly high gold sandals.

However, rather than my frittering away my kids inheritance, my old age will be funded from ever renewing wealth, because I will have finally graduated in Financial Intelligence 101 by then.

I’ll come back to the kids inheritance later.

How can you train your brain to think in a Financially Intelligent manner? I like to think of Financial Intelligence as a platform on which you build your wealth. And like any platform, it needs to have a sturdy support, which I think of as….The Four Pillars of Financial Intelligence .

PILLAR ONE

Pillar One is “Managing Your Mind” where you discover where you are now financially, your family history with money, where your beliefs, behaviours and attitudes to money have often come from.

Then you must look at your abundance versus your scarcity thinking and learn how to monitor that carefully because that old scarcity thinking will pop up when you least expect it.

Whenever you find yourself thinking “I can’t afford it” then you need to beware! You are getting into the wrong mind set and closing yourself off to ideas.

Think instead “how could I afford it?”

PILLAR TWO

Pillar Two is “Managing Your Money” and covers budgeting, cashflow management and projections, credit management and debt busting. Knowing the difference between good debt and bad debt (and if you don’t know the difference then you need to read “Rich Dad Poor Dad” by Robert Kiyosaki fast!).

Learning how to pay yourself first rather than paying Starbucks, Vodaphone, your local curry house, Sainsburys, Egg, Total Petrol, and the list goes on

Olathe Pediatric Dentistry The Foundation of Oral Health

Olathe has been cited as one of the fastest growing cities in the nation according to the census bureau, and as one of the best cities in the nation to live in according to Money magazine. It’s grown from a small town founded in 1875 into the fifth largest city in Kansas, and it did so by building a solid foundation on which to grow from. Similarly, your child’s oral health will likely be formed by developing good habits early on. Olathe pediatric dentistry can help create a solid foundation on which to build good oral health as well as provide many additional benefits.

Studies show that the sooner you teach your kids the importance of oral health the better their dental habits will be throughout their life. And regular visits to an Olathe pediatric dentistry clinic is one of the most important ways to build that education. Not only will kids learn more about their oral health, but parents will find out more as well. A visit every six months for an exam and a standard cleaning will not only prevent many issues from forming, but also help your child learn just how vital regular brushing and flossing really are.

Visiting an Olathe pediatric dentistry will also deliver a level of prevention that you can’t give your kids on your own. Procedures like sealants and fluoride treatments are important aspects of preventing major oral problems, and only a dentist can provide them. Plus, regular x-rays will help ensure that no issues are developing over time. Add in the fact that when an oral emergency arises you’ll need to have someone that you can trust, and the importance of visiting a pediatric dentist on a regular basis becomes far more apparent for your children. Extractions and similar procedures aren’t something you can safely do, but they’re standard parts of the day for a good dentist.

Simply put, you can’t afford not to include Olathe pediatric dentistry in your child’s life. It’s nearly as important as visiting a standard pediatrician, and since oral health affects overall health and well-being as well as a child’s confidence and self-esteem it’s a vital part of their life. When the time comes to find a good dentist, it’s a fairly easy process to find a good one for your children. Once you do, you’ll have found a valuable ally in your child’s future and their overall health.
